british colonial done right

India Hicks, daughter of famed interior designer David Hicks, is probably best known for her amazing home, Hibiscus Hill on Harbour Island in the Bahamas.  Her book, Island Life, was the very first interior design book I purchased years ago and I still resort to it for inspiration for myself as well as my clients.  So, you can imagine my excitement when I read that Ms. Hicks is now renting out three designer homes on her property for vactioners!

Each home was built or restored by India's husband, David Flint Wood, and then decorated in true British Colonial fashion by India herself, for family and friends whenever they visited.  I can only imagine a night's stay in any of these homes would cost some serious dough, but I can't get enough of the gorgeous images of each of these spaces on their website.  Dark floors, white walls, tons of texture, pops of black accents, huge palm fronds and the occasional zebra print create a soothing retreat:

Love the contrast between the white planked walls, canopy and bedding against the dark wood furniture and flooring:

My obsession with black shutters continues....

Whitewashed furniture is amazing (and the finish can be easily recreated):

Love the subway tile and nautical-inspired flush mount lighting in this kitchen (which, might I say, is larger than that of my first home!)

These iron beds are to-die-for...the paintings add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral space:

This bedroom is one of my absolute favorites...

Beautiful nook for an afternoon cocktail...
