john derian’s makeunder

There’s nothing I like more than a good design before and after, especially when it’s underdone as opposed to over decorated and John Derian’s Manhattan abode in the East Village is a beautiful example.  I absolutely loved his rustic summer retreat in Connecticut, so I was not surprised to have fallen in love with his 150 year-old apartment in the city and how well he preserved its integrity while adding modern touches like that fabulous tufted backless sofa and gorgeous, gleaming brass hardware.  The space is undoubtedly sparse and rustic and yet warm, welcoming and cozy at the same time, thanks to well chosen antiques and furniture and beautiful art and lighting.  Makes me want to curl up under a blanket with a book and a cup of tea on a gray Fall day like today!
