neutral territory

Sometimes, the absence of color can be a beautiful thing.  Soft neutrals and a muted color palette, layered with woven materials, warm woods and bold accents of black, charcoal or navy can make an even more dramatic impact than bright color and pattern.  Every year as Autumn rolls around, I find myself gravitating toward these kinds of spaces with gusto.  Since my bank account doesn't allow me to do a decor overhaul with the change of each season, I'm so glad I chose a neutral paint palette in my own home to make it so much easier to swap out pillows, throws and accessories when the desire strikes.  Whoever said neutral was boring clearly hasn't laid eyes on these inspirational images!

I could move right into any of these spaces. Textures have always been so much more appealing to me than loud patterns. I hate when people confuse that with being afraid of color. I'm not "afraid" of color in my home, I just don't prefer it! :)

Very well said, Kate! When layered correctly, neutrals can be so much more appealing than bold pops of color and pattern...I totally agree and your house is a testament to your preference! :)
