Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:49AM When I was a kid, my parents' favorite restaurant was this little hole-in-the-wall Italian place, right by Dupont Circle. The food was amazing and the whole place seemed lit by a million candles that flickered off the stone walls and crisp white tablecloths. Stacks of small, mismatched ironstone dishes sat on each table for dipping bread and meals were served on larger plates-no two were alike. As an adult, and after having searched every flea market and thrift shop for similar pieces, I can appreciate how long it had to have taken to amass such an incredible collection. Ironstone is not cheap, but luckily, inexpensive white dishes, plates and platters are easy to find at TJMaxx, HomeGoods and even Target. White dishes are so beautiful on their own, but when you mix a bunch of different sizes, shapes and even textures, your table, plate rack, china hutch and glassfront cabinets look like they house a collection of dishware that has been collected over time:

Yes yes yes...Some of my fave Ironstone I have found were oval plates and Homer Laughlin restaurant china for 49 cents! Love it all~
