the belafonte

For as long as my hubby and I have been together, we’ve talked (a.k.a. dreamed) about our plans for when it was time to retire: sell our house, buy a sail boat and cruise the world.  Part of the fun has been keeping a small journal of all the places we want to stop and now that my man is certified to charter up to a 50-footer, it’s even more exciting!  So, you can imagine my utter delight when I stumbled upon this adorable 34-foot houseboat in Newport, Rhode Island…this beauty belongs to gallery owners Kristen Coates and Chris Wylie, which they use for entertaining and weekend getaways, but it’s also available for rent!  Can you imagine the fun to be had?  It makes me want to stick a For Sale sign in my front yard and set sail!  From the antique brass porthole mirror, the fabulous turquoise-painted dresser with rope pulls to the flag-covered rooftop sitting area, this houseboat is just oozing charm:

We can’t all be so lucky to have our own houseboat, but if this one were mine, here are my picks for decorating it:

porthole mirror / dresser / whale pillow / bubble highballs / beach tote / rope bowl / knotted rug
