new old stone house

Anyone who has ever built a home from the ground up or embarked upon a renovation or full-on gut job can tell you that progress can be excrutiatingly slow.  And while it can be a long time before rooms start to look like habitable spaces, it’s the little victories that come in the form of freshly painted trim, the installation of a jaw-dropping soapstone farmhouse sink or the delivery of a custom piece of furniture that excites me the most about projects like these.  If you’re looking for some SERIOUS renovation inspiration on Instagram, you absolutely MUST check out Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo.  She is in the process of wrapping up one of the most amazing gut jobs I’ve seen in a long time and I have been so, so inspired by all of her choices, not to mention her attention to every last detail.  I love how she honors the traditional design of the house while at the same time infusing a subtle modern twist.  Here are just a few of the updates she’s posted that are absolutely fabulous:

Thos Moser chairs are a work of art in the new kitchen (and the peek of the la canche stove behind isn’t too bad, either):

Mirrored cabinetry, a soapstone farmhouse sink and brass fixtures in the butler’s pantry make my heart skip a beat:

“Nearly Black” window sashes let the stone exterior take center stage.  So. Gorgeous.

Love the linen, ticking stripe and brass nailhead trim on the dining room banquette:

I don’t envy whoever has to clean those mirrored backsplashes, but they sure are stunning:

A modern twist on the classic black and white bathroom.  That tub is AMAZING:

I’m so drawn to the dark and moody color palette of the exterior and that stone is just divine:

A closeup of the stove and the equally fabulous soapstone backsplash:

DYING over this custom mirror-front hutch:

Stone retaining walls, pea gravel walkways and greenery as far as the eye can see.  This right here makes my heart happy:

Original brass door hardware:

A closeup of the brass beauty in the butler’s pantry:

I’ve never loved Army green paint as much as I do here:

How charming is this pea gravel path that leads to a separate TV room?  Seriously…

Hi! I just found your post from an image of the New Old Stone House I saw on Pinterest. Thank you for the sweet words about our new-old house renovation and about the home we left behind in Northwest Connecticut. I really appreciate it. Happy Blogging! Amy
