a stunning east hampton family home

I finally got a chance to sift through the three-foot high stack of design magazines that have been acting as a makeshift side table next to my sofa the other day and I have to say, the June issue of Architectural Digest is KILLING me softly, it’s so good!  As soon as I landed upon the East Hampton home of Pilar Guzman and Chris Mitchell, my heart skipped a beat!  While I don’t typically fall head over heels for super contemporary design, this one is a stunning combination of traditional bones mixed with modern furnishings and the most GORGEOUS lighting I ever did see!  Crisp white walls and trim are such a gorgeous backdrop for cerused oak and leather, antique brass details and soft jute rugs.  I’m so obsessed, I can’t stop rifling back through the issue for another peek!  I’ve posted some contemporary homes on the blog before but this one definitely is the cream of the crop!

Cedar shingles, crisp white trim and a free-floating pool in the middle of the yard?  Be still my ever loving heart!

White walls and molding are anything but boring when paired with a gorgeous beamed ceiling and vintage Borge Mogensen and Kaare Klint chairs.  And that little sneaky peek of a brass, branching Sputnik chandelier by Lindsey Adelman?  Oh, yes….

Another view of the breathtaking living room:

French doors and wall-to-wall windows framed by linen curtain panels bring the outside in:

The kitchen is a fresh take on all-white; the built-in, floor-to-ceiling cabinets, 12 foot work table and Thomas O’Brien sconces are beautifully complimented by the rustic overhead beams.  I’ve got serious heart eyes all over this entire room:

Simple but stunning details in the dining room:

An antique trestle table, stained glass windows original to the house and a David Weeks Studio chandelier in the stairway are another great example of how to mix traditional and modern:

The linen wingback bed in the master bedroom is BANANAS and those sheepskin rugs make me want to curl up on right there on the floor!

While I love every single square inch of this entire house, it’s the master bathroom that makes my heart flutter – floor-to-ceiling Cararra marble subway tiles, a bananas free standing tub and French doors leading to a private porch has me wanting to sell everything I own to re-create this in my house and then never EVER leave it!

While even just one of the chandeliers or vintage chairs in this house is worth more than a year’s worth of mortgage payments for me, I put together some picks that I think help create a similar feel for those of us with champagne taste on beer budgets!  Not pictured below, but completely necessary would be about twenty gallons of white paint to coat walls, trim and molding!

Goddess chandelier / Before the Storm print / Andros Rope Chair / Handspun Jute Rug /

Lander Brass Sconce / Pacific Tripod Floor Lamp / Sheepskin rug / Parsons dining table

Happy Hump Day!
