my baby girl turns 2

Happy 2016!! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are off to a great start in the New Year!  We have had quite a bit to celebrate these last few weeks; I am one incredibly lucky and grateful girl to have had my entire immediate family come into town to celebrate the holidays and then two days later, my baby girl's second birthday!  TWO YEARS!?  It seems like I was just sharing bump pictures and planning her nursery (sniff, sniff).  I thought the first year flew by in the blink of an eye but the truth is, the second one passed twice as quickly.  This stage of motherhood has honestly been my favorite so far, which has made it a little easier to celebrate another year passing at what seems like the speed of light (and at least this year I wasn't hiding in the bathroom bawling my eyes out while my entire family waited in the living room to blow out candles!?).

To commemorate another big year for our sweet girl, we had our family photos taken the week of Thanksgiving and I am absolutely, head over heels in love with how my lovely photographer friend captured all Lydia's sweetness (and a little of her spice, too!)  Anyone who has ever tried to have their pictures taken with a toddler knows it's NO JOKE one of the most trying things EVER.  But the mark of a talented photographer is that you would never guess it by looking at these photos...

All of her little friends were away for the holidays so her party will be in January when everyone is home and off leave.  For her big day, we celebrated with funfetti cake and balloons with my family and it was perfect.  I bought these tissue paper fans from Shop Sweet Lulu for her party last year and loved them so much, I hung them on our hutch again this year to add a little festive girly-ness.  A friend found the Jenny Lind high chair in mint condition at a yard sale for $15.  It was the perfect little setup for the birthday girl:

It was a hit with the birthday girl:

The hubby's birthday is next month and this will be the first time in THREE YEARS that he will be stateside to celebrate the big day!  That, in itself, is quite a feat, so I'm on the hunt for an amazing gift.  Shopping for the guy who has everything is tough, especially when he would be just as happy barbequing and celebrating with an ice cream cake, in lieu of gifts.  But birthdays are a BIG deal for me, so the pressure is on to get him something amazing! Having started his military career in Hawaii also became the start of a lifelong love of surfing.  I love this "Waiting, Malibu" print by Annie Seaton and it's available through Minted in many different sizes, all the way up to 44x44!  I think an oversize print like this would be a beautiful gift idea that is not only dramatic and colorful but also pays homage to his love for surfing and a pretty incredible career at that!

Choosing art sizes can be tough, especially oversize pieces, but I love how easy Minted makes it by including a sizing chart for every piece!

I'm so in love with the color palette in this piece and the laid back, casual vibe.  Here are a couple picks I would use to style a room with an oversize piece like this:

Seagrass basket / Waiting, Malibu print / Wicker chair / Christopher Farr Carnival pillow /

Timur Weave pillow / Kasari Ikat lumbar pillow / Knotty Bubbles pendant light /

Blake Raffia coffee table / Dhurrie rug

Here are a few others I'm loving by Annie Seaton - I'm so drawn to all the different shades of blue and the movement of each piece.  The contrast between the water and the silhouettes is beautiful, too.  How amazing would a gallery wall of a bunch of these in simple frames and different sizes be??  Everyone loves the beach so these would make a great gift idea, too! Paddle Boarders / American Idyll II / Surfer Bae

Waiting for Swell / Surfer in Silhouette / Rincon Surfers

Happy Monday!

lydia's turning 1!

In less than two weeks, my baby girl will turn ONE.  How that happened so fast, I do not know, but I try hard not to think about it as just the thought of the impending day reduces me to a blubbering mess.  Please tell me that has happened to you, too? My entire family is coming in for the big day; we have so much to celebrate, so much to be grateful for and I'm so glad they will all be here!  Even though her actual birthday party won't be until next month, I'm still planning on making her actual birthday super special.  I'm sticking with a peach, coral and navy blue color palette with lots of gold accents, of course. Simple flowers, tissue paper pinwheels and homemade birthday cake for the birthday girl:

I went a little overboard on the tissue pinwheels, but I love how delicate they are and I was so excited to find them from Shop Sweet Lulu in the exact colors and sizes I wanted!  I'm going to hang them from the hutch as a backdrop for the table:

When I couldn't find a navy and white striped tablecloth, my sweet, generous, thoughtful aunt came to the rescue and surprised me by having a gorgeous one made!  It looks a lot like this fabric from Premier Prints:

I couldn't believe it when I saw peonies at the grocery store a week ago and I thought they would make the perfect centerpiece!  Pale pink blooms with the navy tablecloth and gold accents would be divine; fingers crossed they will still be around in another week or so! I love the mix of cabbage roses and dahlias in these centerpieces:

I'm making her cake myself and thinking I'm going to try my hand at an ombre layered one and just ice in between the layers and the top, with some gold dust sprinkled on the edges.  Naturally, I must have gold dust.  Now that I think of it, though, that may be a bit of a lofty intention, we will see how it turns out.  Something like this would be perfect (and I love how in this picture, the cake sits atop a navy blue tablecloth!):

I wanted to do something different for a cake topper and when I saw these natural wood numbers, which are actually table number markers from Beholdn, I couldn't resist!  My brother is turning the big 3-0, as well, so I snagged one for his cake, too:

There will be SO many more details to come for her birthday party in January, but I'll be sure to post some snippets from the family celebration, too.  Hope you're all having a wonderful week and getting all your shopping done!  Happy Hump Day!

black, white, green + lovely all over!

I fell head over heels for the fun celebration/dinner party that the talented gals over at at Confetti Pop created in honor of Rue Mag's third birthday/anniversary!  The black, white and green color combination is so fun, fresh and classic and the gold and silver accents are such a beautiful compliment.  I especially love the bold black and white table runner, which would be easily created by folding over a few yards of striped fabric by the yard!  There is so much to love about this setup and it would make an equally amazing and intimate dinner party for friends as it would a birthday party or anniversary celebration like here:

Here are my picks for getting the look for your next celebration!

gold flatware / mercury glass votives / gold charger / bread board / sugar + creamer set /

striped fabric by the yard / succulents / gold cocktail napkins / blackburn vase / wood cake stand
