new pillows (finally!) + a new favorite etsy shop

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are off to a great start in 2019!  While all of blogland and Instagram is all about organizing every nook and cranny of your home this month, I thought I'd change tack a little and make my first post of the new year about one of my favorite decorative accessories, instead....new pillows!!

I've been on the hunt for lumbar pillows for the chairs in our living room for some time now, but never really loved anything enough to pull the trigger.  Then right before Christmas - like, literally, ten days before, when the hubby was trying to get me to give him a couple things from my wish list, I landed on Motif Pillows' page on Etsy and fell in love with John Robshaw Lanka in Lapis.  I quickly emailed them to see what the turnaround time would be if I ordered two lumbar pillows, TOTALLY not expecting them in time for Christmas, and was told that if I ordered them that day (Saturday) they could get them out the following Wednesday (Christmas was the following Tuesday). The hubby ordered them, and, I kid you not, the pillow covers were in my mailbox three days later!!!!

I am not sponsored by Motif Pillows in any way, I'm just so impressed with the customer service, the quick response and, of course, the quality of the pillows, that I had to share!  I'm so in love with the print; I think it's the perfect compliment to the linen chairs and the pop of black on the side table.

I'm still looking for a blue and white striped or a pale blue throw to tuck into the cushion on the chair (any suggestions are most welcome!!), but I'm so happy with how well this turned out!  Changing up your throw pillows can be a small investment, but it can completely transform and breathe new life into a space - perfect for the New Year! Okay, off to enjoy this gorgeous 66 degree weather with the littles and then tackle one closet/dumping spot in my house at a time!

blue + white lumbar pillow love

Mark D. Sikes

I have the itch to change things up around here so bad.  I blame Instagram and the fact that I've been too exhausted / busy with my littles the last nine months to do anything more than a little zhushing of my corner built-ins, but change is good and so I'm going to start small with some new pillows for my living room.  First up is lumbar pillows for the two chairs.  I'm so excited to bring a different shade of blue and white to my linen pieces for the warmer months because, let's face it, there's no other color combination that screams summer.  As for my beloved Robert Allen pillows on my sofa now, I'm too attached to part with them so I'll be relocating them to the new guest room upstairs!

Etsy is always my first stop for budget-friendly pillows; I used to source fabric by the yard and then have my seamstress make them for me in year's past but, in the end, it actually ended up being more expensive and time consuming, so now it's Etsy all the way!   Spark Modern is always my first stop for pillows and, in this case, I didn't have to look any further as I'm obsessed with pretty much each and every one of the blue and white lumbar pillows.  Here are a few picks I'm loving lately.  Now to just narrow it down (I want them ALL!)

Happy Monday!

3 etsy artists i'm loving lately

Sorry for the silence on the blog last week - the hubby had the last two weeks off so we took the opportunity to high tail it to the beach and soak up some much-needed family time! It was hard sending him back off to work again this morning, but I'm super excited to be back to blogging and I have a TON of stuff to share with you guys!  We made some serious headway in the nursery, had a new table and benches made for our deck and knocked out a bunch of small DIY's with major bang for your crafty buck!  Right now, though, I wanted to share three extremely talented artists whose pieces are bright and beautiful reminders of our time spent by the sea these last two weeks!

I've never been one to gravitate toward overly feminine fabrics, art or design in general, but I am seriously crushing on these three Etsy artists recently who happen to nail that girly girl aesthetic  in gorgeous, watery pastels and lovely, moody blues.  The best part is that all of their prints are available in many different sizes and they are super affordable!  So, if you've been wanting to get started on a collection of your own, are just one who appreciates a beautiful piece, or are looking for a gift for your favorite girlfriend, here are three artists to check out now!

Hayley Mitchell Art

I'm obsessed with the colors in her Sunner print and her Moth series is equally amazing!

Sunner

Moth Series

Kristine Brookshire

Gorgeous watercolor nudes and beach scenes in the prettiest pastel shades!  Any one of these would be a beautiful addition to a bathroom:

Female Figure

Lady Coral

Female Figure in Acrylic

Clare Elsaesser

Clare needs no introduction here; I've posted her work on the blog many times and I still love her female silhoettes in the sea as much now as when I first laid eyes on them!  Any one of these would look absolutely amazing on a large scale for some serious drama in a bedroom or bathroom!

Married to the Sea

At Sunset

Summer Girl

Who are some Etsy artists you're loving lately?  I'm always on the lookout for new favorites!

Happy Hump Day!

spring pillow picks

When it comes to color combinations for spring, I don't think There isn't another more perfect than blue and green.  It's fresh and crisp and reminiscent of all the new growth right outside our door and it's a great way to bring the outdoors inside for the change in season.  Spark Modern is one of my favorite sources for affordable throw pillows in the most gorgeous designer fabrics - I just sourced a pair of these beauties for the living room in a client's beach house and can't wait to see how they look installed!  They also have a pretty good variety of pillows in blue and green so I thought I'd round up some that I'm loving lately.  Any and all of these would look amazing on neutral furniture and would add just the right pop of color and texture!  Be sure to check out the rest of their selection here:

Happy Shopping!

an art print every little girl needs on her wall

I know you guys are probably over all the art posts (and if you follow me on Instagram, the pictures of Lydia's gallery wall), but I just couldn't resist telling you all about this little gem I picked up for her a few months ago!  I just had to have it, not only because the colors are absolutely perfect for her room, but also because she went through a phase last winter where she wore her purple and pink capes with matching eye masks night and day. You guys know that I like to decorate with items that have personal meaning, so when I stumbled upon this print right at the height of her caped crusades, I just had to have it!  I dressed it up by wrapping a plain white picture frame mat with some linen fabric (you can see how I did it here).  It's the perfect addition to her gallery wall and it's something she can keep up for a long time.  It's also a great gift idea; I've ordered a few for friends with little girls and they've all loved it as much as I do!
