new pillows (finally!) + a new favorite etsy shop

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are off to a great start in 2019!  While all of blogland and Instagram is all about organizing every nook and cranny of your home this month, I thought I'd change tack a little and make my first post of the new year about one of my favorite decorative accessories, instead....new pillows!!

I've been on the hunt for lumbar pillows for the chairs in our living room for some time now, but never really loved anything enough to pull the trigger.  Then right before Christmas - like, literally, ten days before, when the hubby was trying to get me to give him a couple things from my wish list, I landed on Motif Pillows' page on Etsy and fell in love with John Robshaw Lanka in Lapis.  I quickly emailed them to see what the turnaround time would be if I ordered two lumbar pillows, TOTALLY not expecting them in time for Christmas, and was told that if I ordered them that day (Saturday) they could get them out the following Wednesday (Christmas was the following Tuesday). The hubby ordered them, and, I kid you not, the pillow covers were in my mailbox three days later!!!!

I am not sponsored by Motif Pillows in any way, I'm just so impressed with the customer service, the quick response and, of course, the quality of the pillows, that I had to share!  I'm so in love with the print; I think it's the perfect compliment to the linen chairs and the pop of black on the side table.

I'm still looking for a blue and white striped or a pale blue throw to tuck into the cushion on the chair (any suggestions are most welcome!!), but I'm so happy with how well this turned out!  Changing up your throw pillows can be a small investment, but it can completely transform and breathe new life into a space - perfect for the New Year! Okay, off to enjoy this gorgeous 66 degree weather with the littles and then tackle one closet/dumping spot in my house at a time!

'tis the season!

Ready or not, the holiday season is officially upon us and I, for one, couldn't be happier!  If I had my way, I'd get our tree on 1 November, but since I've been vetoed on that one, I'm playing Christmas music and am slowly, but surely, working on dressing up my table settings for the season!  I don't know about you guys, but I like to deck the halls before I can really think too far into shopping (although, I am DETERMINED to be done my shopping by 1 December this year!)  There are so many gorgeous home decor options out right now that are also super budget-friendly that I decided to round up a few I'm loving lately.....every single one (except for the bar cart) is less than $100 and will take you not only through the holidays but will also keep your home feeling festive long after the tree has come down!  (Not to mention, they're all great gift ideas!)  I don't have much brass or gold in my house but after putting all these pretties together, I'm thinking I may need to remedy that (hello, gold ice bucket!)  Seriously, though, there isn't any color comination more chic than blue and white with pops of green, a little rattan and marble!  What holiday decorative accessories are you loving this year?

Gold Ice Bucket / Boxwood wreath / Marble pedestal / Blue double old fashioneds / Napkins

Cheese knives / Burl wood tray / Trim tassel pillow / Tortoise shaker / South Seas Side Cart

christmas table setting

Red is a color I love to wear but rarely ever use in decorating.  While I tend to stick to silver, gold and white when Christmas rolls around, this year I just couldn't resist a little pop of red when planning my table for Christmas dinner.  I found this linen hemstitch table runner last year at TJMAXX and have been waiting for the perfect time to use it, and with the plate hutch and all my ironstone platters providing a crisp white backdrop, it's just the right amount of color to add a cheerful touch for the holiday!

I'm keeping everything else super neutral and playing up the texture with water hyacinth placemats from Ikea, my French wine glasses from Crate and Barrel, woven tumblers from HomeGoods and my new, AMAZING bamboo flatware (more on that to come!).  A few clippings from my green giant arborvitae out back in a silver hotel pitcher in the center and that's it!  I always look for something to dress up my every day dining/entertaining basics and this year the red runner was it - I especially love how amazing it looks with the rattan, water hyacinth and bamboo.  When in doubt, I always add some color and some texture! I can't wait to have everyone sitting around this table on Sunday and Monday and this red is really growing on me, I must admit.  The best part, for me, is that it is completely unfussy.  How are you decorating your table this year for Christmas?

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a New Year of health, happiness and success!
