gregory shano's relaxed retreat by the sea

Take one look at Gregory Shano's relaxed Long Island retreat by the sea and you'll be completely smitten before you even hit the front door! Classic cedar shakes with crisp white trim and navy blue accents on the outside and the prettiest shades of the palest blues and warm, woven grass cloth on the inside are exactly what you hope to see in a Hamptons hideaway by the sea (at least I do!) Shano did a complete overhaul of the house and land, which is only one third of an acre but with a pool, poolhouse and an outdoor dining spot, lives incredibly larger.  Every last detail is beautiful and so well thought out:

An old garage that was converted into a pool house with cedar shakes and sliding barn doors is a beautiful backdrop for a slate outdoor eating area.  The navy and white accents and the hydrangeas and oversize ferns are beautiful compliments:

Oh, that pool.  Those hedges.  And another shot of that pool house.

The living room is my favorite room in the entire house.  Planked walls, a capiz chandelier, striped chairs, a jute rug and blue-painted bookshelf backs are my idea of perfection:

I've always been a huge fan of grass cloth wall covering but, I think I may love the pale blue painted trim paired with it in the formal living room even more.  And those gorgeous glass lamps are divine.

A close up of that gorgeous grass cloth in the stairwell:

Pale blue reigns supreme in the master bedroom and the effect is so cozy and elegant.  Blue grass cloth walls and crisp white bedding had me at hello:

blue + white fabrics for spring

If you're looking to freshen up your decor for spring and summer, might I suggest a little blue and white?  Specifically, some fabulous new fabrics by the yard in the most perfect color combination from Lewis and Sheron!  I hopped onto their website in search of some fabric for throw pillows for the two chairs in my living room and naturally found myself immediately gravitating toward their collection of blue fabrics.  To say that I was impressed with the selection is a HUGE understatement!  I check their new fabrics often and there are quite a few that I haven't seen before; all of them are so well priced, I thought I'd share a few of my favorites with you all today.  From watery, pale blue to navy and lots of summer stripes, watercolor-inspired patterns and florals, there is something for everyone who loves blue and white.   Here are a few that I'm absolutely loving right now:

Row 1: Antigua / Ariza / Bellajovi

Row 2: Birmingham / Jamboree / Kai

Row 3: Keyhole / Lazy Afternoon / Leaf for Ever

Row 1: Netscape / Pavillion Fretwork / Perspective

Row 2: Reel it In / Siena / Spotkat

Row 3: Tahoma / Tibesti / Trouseau

lydia's turning 1!

In less than two weeks, my baby girl will turn ONE.  How that happened so fast, I do not know, but I try hard not to think about it as just the thought of the impending day reduces me to a blubbering mess.  Please tell me that has happened to you, too? My entire family is coming in for the big day; we have so much to celebrate, so much to be grateful for and I'm so glad they will all be here!  Even though her actual birthday party won't be until next month, I'm still planning on making her actual birthday super special.  I'm sticking with a peach, coral and navy blue color palette with lots of gold accents, of course. Simple flowers, tissue paper pinwheels and homemade birthday cake for the birthday girl:

I went a little overboard on the tissue pinwheels, but I love how delicate they are and I was so excited to find them from Shop Sweet Lulu in the exact colors and sizes I wanted!  I'm going to hang them from the hutch as a backdrop for the table:

When I couldn't find a navy and white striped tablecloth, my sweet, generous, thoughtful aunt came to the rescue and surprised me by having a gorgeous one made!  It looks a lot like this fabric from Premier Prints:

I couldn't believe it when I saw peonies at the grocery store a week ago and I thought they would make the perfect centerpiece!  Pale pink blooms with the navy tablecloth and gold accents would be divine; fingers crossed they will still be around in another week or so! I love the mix of cabbage roses and dahlias in these centerpieces:

I'm making her cake myself and thinking I'm going to try my hand at an ombre layered one and just ice in between the layers and the top, with some gold dust sprinkled on the edges.  Naturally, I must have gold dust.  Now that I think of it, though, that may be a bit of a lofty intention, we will see how it turns out.  Something like this would be perfect (and I love how in this picture, the cake sits atop a navy blue tablecloth!):

I wanted to do something different for a cake topper and when I saw these natural wood numbers, which are actually table number markers from Beholdn, I couldn't resist!  My brother is turning the big 3-0, as well, so I snagged one for his cake, too:

There will be SO many more details to come for her birthday party in January, but I'll be sure to post some snippets from the family celebration, too.  Hope you're all having a wonderful week and getting all your shopping done!  Happy Hump Day!

easy, breezy beach house chic

I'm hanging on to the remaining days of summer with a vengeance.  Even though it'll be a while until we get any cooler temps here in the south, it's been so gray and gloomy lately it almost feels like Fall already.  What better way to perk up those summer spirits than with a beautiful beach house in Naragansett, Rhode Island? Snippets of this oceanfront stunner caught my eye while flipping through the September issue of Coastal Living over the weekend and I was thrilled to see it's the latest from Rhode Island-based interior designer Kate Jackson!  The best beach houses are those that are both elegant and welcoming and give a subtle nod to the nautical and Kate accomplishes this in spades here with a sand and sea glass blue color palette, pops of navy and orange, gauzy sheer curtains, oversize hanging lanterns, seagrass rugs and touches of driftwood.  Sheer perfection:

A light blue painted island and cabinet backs and bold navy and white striped bar stools add a pop of color to the light, bright, all-white kitchen and eating area without distracting from that amazing view!

That beadboard-backed coffered ceiling is to die for!  I love how Kate carries the blue-painted bookshelf backs to the living area, as well:

Navy and orange details are fun and fresh:

That view!!

So much good in this small outdoor space, from the wicker sectional and hanging lights to the pattern, texture and color of pillows and throws.  The perfect perch to admire that amazing view, day and night!

summer goodies at c wonder!

Navy and white is the quintessential color combination for summer (clearly, since it's been the topic of many a blog post of mine lately!)  Dress it up with a little bling and some gold or create a more casual vibe with stripes and natural textures like seagrass and wicker.  C Wonder is one of my favorite go-to places for accessories that make a statement and they happen to have a great selection of summer goodies in navy, white, gold and seagrass this summer.  Here are a few favorites I'm loving right now:

These pave arrow hoops are edgy and elegant.  A perfect compliment to a simple tank and white skinnies.

Navy and white ikat dinnerware and matching salad bowl with gorgeous gold rim detailing would have guests drooling before dinner is even served!

Dress up your next summer soiree with this simple yet gorgeous wicker salad serving set and matching cheese knives.  Either would make a great hostess gift, too!

This brass fish bottle opener adds just the right nautical touch.

Every table setting needs a little bit of texture.  This woven seagrass placemat dresses up simple white dinnerware and adds a rustic touch.

My motto is to monogram anything that doesn't move; this gold monogrammed wine stopper is right up my alley!

I'm a sucker for a great tote that can do double duty for running errands, the beach or, lately, doubling as a diaper bag and this rugby striped tote is not only super chic, but it's on mega sale right now!

What are some of your C Wonder favorites?
