new pillows (finally!) + a new favorite etsy shop

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are off to a great start in 2019!  While all of blogland and Instagram is all about organizing every nook and cranny of your home this month, I thought I'd change tack a little and make my first post of the new year about one of my favorite decorative accessories, pillows!! 

I've been on the hunt for lumbar pillows for the chairs in our living room for some time now, but never really loved anything enough to pull the trigger.  Then right before Christmas - like, literally, ten days before, when the hubby was trying to get me to give him a couple things from my wish list, I landed on Motif Pillows' page on Etsy and fell in love with John Robshaw Lanka in Lapis.  I quickly emailed them to see what the turnaround time would be if I ordered two lumbar pillows, TOTALLY not expecting them in time for Christmas, and was told that if I ordered them that day (Saturday) they could get them out the following Wednesday (Christmas was the following Tuesday). The hubby ordered them, and, I kid you not, the pillow covers were in my mailbox three days later!!!!

I am not sponsored by Motif Pillows in any way, I'm just so impressed with the customer service, the quick response and, of course, the quality of the pillows, that I had to share!  I'm so in love with the print; I think it's the perfect compliment to the linen chairs and the pop of black on the side table. 

I'm still looking for a blue and white striped or a pale blue throw to tuck into the cushion on the chair (any suggestions are most welcome!!), but I'm so happy with how well this turned out!  Changing up your throw pillows can be a small investment, but it can completely transform and breathe new life into a space - perfect for the New Year! Okay, off to enjoy this gorgeous 66 degree weather with the littles and then tackle one closet/dumping spot in my house at a time!

When it comes to color combinations for spring, I don't think There isn't another more perfect than blue and green.  It's fresh and crisp and reminiscent of all the new growth right outside our door and it's a great way to bring the outdoors inside for the change in season.  Spark Modern is one of my favorite sources for affordable throw pillows in the most gorgeous designer fabrics - I just sourced a pair of these beauties for the living room in a client's beach house and can't wait to see how they look installed!  They also have a pretty good variety of pillows in blue and green so I thought I'd round up some that I'm loving lately.  Any and all of these would look amazing on neutral furniture and would add just the right pop of color and texture!  Be sure to check out the rest of their selection here:

You guys know I never met a throw pillow I didn't like and Spark Modern is killing it lately with their beachy, bohemian-inspired selection!  Block prints, ikats and florals in moody blues, deep purples and creams are perfect for infusing a little color and bringing a fresh, casual vibe for summer and have me itching to switch things up a bit myself.  There are a few Etsy shops I turn to time and time again for fabulous throw pillows and Spark Modern is definitely one of them!  I've sourced them many times for clients, they always have the best selection and their customer service can't be beat!  New throw pillows are one of my favorite and inexpensive ways to add color, texture and interest; I definitely recommend checking out their selection if you're wanting to change up your look for the summer.  Here are a few of my favorites - all of them mix and match effortlessly!

my living room: sofa, pillow, mirror, map sources

Happy Hump Day, friends!  A few of you asked about the sofa and throw pillows in my living room after I posted a picture on Instagram last week of how we keep our furbaby from having dance parties on the sofa when we are out of the house, so, I thought it was good motivation to tidy up and snap some pictures along with sources! 

My sofa/sectional.  We got rid of our old sofas when we built this house - it was time for some grown up investment pieces and, because of the layout in our living room, I knew a sofa with a connecting chaise and two chairs was going to be better than two bulky sofas.  I wanted a natural, flax linen upholstery with more modern lines, and after an exhausting search, we headed to High Point and ended up with a sectional by Robin Bruce, Rowe's upscale line for a FRACTION of the cost of Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn and every other retailer I was sourcing.  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.  We bought it five years ago and it still looks brand new; I do flip the seat and back cushions every morning because they are down and I don't want huge dips, but it's a small price to pay, I think!  Unfortunately, this model is no longer available (I can't, for the life of me figure out why) but this one is pretty similar, save for the rolled arms.

The oversize wood sunburst mirror over my mantle.  Many readers have emailed me asking about this bad boy.  It's from Ballard Designs a few years ago and it's HUGE.  Almost 4 feet in diameter and, of course, it's no longer available through Ballard.  This one from Wayfair is similar in size and definitely has the same wow factor.

Throw pillows.  I intentionally went with a neutral sofa so that I could easily change out throw pillows but I love mine so much that I have yet to swap them out!  I like to mix a solid with a stripe and a print whenever possible both for variety as well for color and texture.  From left to right, the blue linen with jute cording were Home Goods finds.  The cream and linen stripe pillow, backed by and corderd with blue linen are from etsy seller CCDeuxVie; I absolutely love the quality and fabric variety of her pillows and have actually blogged about her here and here.  The printed pillows to the right were custom made by my seamstress.  The fabric is Robert Allen's Nehru in Indigo and it's GORGEOUS in person.

The nautical charts over my sofa.  These are one of my favorite items in my living room as much for the drama (each one is over four feet wide) and color but also because they respresent where my husband and I met and where we took our first vacation.  I bought both of mine from MD Nautical online, then had them mounted on foam core mat board and made frames from simple molding from Lowe's.  You can read about how I did it step by step here. It's a great and inexpensive way (I paid less than $30 for each map!) to make a big and beautiful statement in any space:

pillow picks for fall - cc deux vie

I don't know about you guys, but the (somewhat) change in the seasons has me wanting to tone things down even more in my house and add some muted, tone-on-tone color.  My first thought is always to swap out some of my throw pillows for some fresh new color and pattern that's just a tad bit moodier than my regular palette of light gray/blue and khaki to slate blue, charcoal and greige.  Just a little cozier for the colder months and not so drastic that I need to change other parts of my decor. 

Etsy is my preferred place to shop for new pillow covers and I always check out CC Deux Vie first to see what she's got in the shop.  I'm never disappointed, either!  I love how unique each of her covers are; her patchwork is gorgeous and she takes simple stripes to a whole new level by sewing them on the bias and then adding contrasting trim/welting for a sophisticated, elegant and tailored feel.  Her color palette is perfect for fall right now; from jewel tones and bold black and white to creamy whites, champagne and a little leopard print for good measure.  And each one is so affordable!  Here are my favorites, each one perfect for adding a little fall color and texture:
